Theme
Possibilities in visual writing.
Aim
Explore full potential of visual writing in order for the work to be able to create an infinite number of associations and to attain transcendental qualities. Explore ways of finding the true essence of the work, its determinant, its hidden balance of the opposing principles.
THE WORKSHOP
ASSIGNMENT
Each participant will be given an assignment to create a short visual story of 10 to 30 pictures. Topics for the assignments will be unique to each participant. There will not be a set of predetermined topics. In fact, a list of topics will be proposed by participants during a public discussion. Participants can use surroundings, exterior/interior of the house, and each other to create a story. The showing of the produced work will take place on the last day of the workshop and be open to a public discussion.
WORKFLOW

Each participant will have a private review with all 3 instructors (3 on 1 review).

Each instructor will present his/her work throughout the workshop days.

For participants that prefer to work with film, there will be an option to develop, scan, and print the pictures.

Instructors will provide not only critique, but guidance to each participant while working on the assignments.

Participants and Instructors will live in a communal setting to facilitate the exchange of ideas, pose questions, and enjoy the setting, whether it’s the nature, sharing meals, conversations about life.

Toward the end of the workshop, there will be an option for a trip to Genova, located roughly one hour away from the property.

INSTRUCTORS
Dina Oganova is a documentary photographer, educator and bookmaker based in her hometown,Tbilisi. Working on personal, long term projects mostly in her and post soviet countries, has focused on women’s and young girls’ rights, social and political topics. In 2011 won Kolga Tbilisi Photo special author prize and in 2012 won her first production grant from Open Society Foundation. In 2013 was selected among world 12 best young photographers to attend World Press Photo ‘s Joop Swart Masterclass. Dina was the first Georgian photographer who was ever selected and attended this event. In 2014 was selected as one of 30 best women photographers under the age of 30 and in 2015 PDN named her among the 30 best emerging photographers to watch under the age of 30 and in the same year was finalist at Wallis Annenberg Prize. In 2016 was selected as an APAD grant finalist while, in 2017, she won the European Union Prize for Journalism for the Best Documentary photo. In 2018 won a Multimedia Production Lab Grant for South Caucasian Female Photographers and a grant from Women’s Fund. In 2019 she won the “Litera Award” for the best documentary book of the year with sHEROes in collaboration with the writer Salome Benidze.
Samuele Pellecchia began working as a photojournalist after his studies in philosophy, and in 2004 he founded Prospekt Photographers agency. He has accomplished photographic projects all around the world. His long term project Close To Me has been projected at the Rencontres d’Arles, La Nuit de l’Année in 2011. In 2009 he was the producer and the author of the web-doc The Iron Curtain Diaries, shortlisted at the first edition of the France 24-RFI Web Documentary Award in Visa pour l’Image 2009, at Festival Des Quatres Ecrans in Paris, and at IDFA in Amsterdam. The documentary Murat, the geographer has been selected at the CMCA - Méditerranée Audiovisuelle in Arles. With the Politecnico di Torino and in partnership with Tsinghua University, he did a long term project about the Chinese new urbanization, which became an exhibition China Goes Urban at MAO in Turin. He is currently working on the transformation of the city of Milan and on the places left behind in the Italian territory. He is continuing to work on Close To Me.
Igor Posner has been involved in photography for over 20 years as an author, publisher,
designer, and educator. Igor has published two books, Past Perfect Continuous, and Cargó. Both of his books are in the collection of The Museum of Modern Art, New York. He has lectured and presented his work at The School of Visual Arts in New York, The New School University, Penumbra Foundation, and many other institutions. His work has been featured in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, L’oeil de la Photographie, Esquire, and other publications. Igor has been a member of Prospekt Photographes since 2011. He is currently based in Brooklyn, New York.

The workshop will be held at Cremolino (Alessandria) Piedmont, Italy.
From Monday 8th July 2024 to Sunday 14th 2024.

Includes accommodation, breakfast, daily lunch and dinner for 7 days and 6 nights.
Early booking price is 1500€ till may 15th.
900€ paid upon the enrollment and the rest until 11th July.

The closest railway station is Prasco-Cremolino (pick up can be arranged).
The closest airports are Milan (Malpensa) and Genova (pick up can be arranged).
The workshop will be offered in english.
